where we live

We are a church community here on the coast, a family on mission intentional about partnering with the Spirit of God in the reconciliation of humanity to creation, to each other, and ultimately, to God.
Simply put, it's where we live—truly live, together, in this beautiful place we get to call home.

We gather in St Patrick’s Church Hall, Causeway St, Portrush, at 9.45am the first three Sundays of the month. The fourth Sunday of the month we meet in homes for our Table Sunday. And you will also find us out and about during the week: in homes, in coffee shops, on the beach, or engaged in community-oriented activities.

COASTAL | Presence People ask us what’s Coastal like? It sometimes looks something like this. Children and adults alike gathered around a storyteller or friend pointing to the provision of God—in grace, in food, in welcome. Today ‘church’ looked like beginning with a beach clean, followed by brunch in a home and sharing of grown produce (a liturgy for pulling lettuce should be written!). Creation, hospitality, family. Eugene Peterson writes that “theology divorced from geography gets us into trouble”. Some people want God as an escape from reality. But the story of God is about being personal and placed, very very real. God’s great love and purposes for us are worked out in the messes of our kitchens, our back gardens, in storms and sins, in blue skies and beaches, in daily work and common lives. God deals with us where we are and not where we want to escape to. Part of that (not all!) is being invited to sacrificially look after the land in which we are placed as the priests and gardeners. It is an act of worship. You see, we are stewards. We do not own this place. It is not ours. As the Psalmist says, “The earth is the Lord, and everything in it!” (Psalm 24:1). It was a life-changing visit to the monastic site on Iona which led the author Calvin Miller to lament that, ‘We who serve an entirely indoor God have lost a great part of our faith.’ So that means that where we live matters. Where we find ourselves matters. This planet as a whole matters to God. Not just our souls, but this place too. All is being renewed, and we’re invited to consider what that means as we relate to the created land around us, of which we are very much a part. We tried to live into that today.
